"The process of growing as a team basketball player — learning how to become part of a whole, how to fit into something bigger than oneself — becomes completely lost within the AAU fabric.” - Steve Kerr
I made an interesting observation about the Golden Warriors while watching them dismantle the Cleveland Cavaliers. It appears that whenever a role player enters the game, his teammates make it a point to get them a shot or two within their first few minutes on the floor.
Teamwork makes the dream work. My primary objective as a coach is to convince a group of individual student-athletes to sacrifice part of their game for the betterment of the team. However, I am so fortunate to have teams like the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and San Antonio to point too as examples. The challenge is overcoming the examples that rest of the NBA provides.
In many ways, the Golden State Warriors are an expression of LeBron James in the form an entire team. It's my hope that ALA Gilbert North 7th - 12th basketball teams are teams that through collective achievement each individual accomplishments more than they would individually.
One of my proudest moments was taking over the 8th grade teams for Excel Sports and leading them to the Arizona Middle School State Championship. I love how they share the ball (We are the team in Black).
